About Mr Mud

Mud Brick RotundaMy reason for presenting this website is to be able to give people access to a practitioner's point of view; particularly when regards to the rendering and finishing of mud bricks and final treatment and finishing of natural timbers commonly used in mudbrick construction.

I would like explain my humble beginnings and exactly what it is that I do.

Initially I became involved in the rendering and finishing of mud brick houses and associated timberwork during the 70s through my association and work with the Grimes Family, or to be more specific Alan and John Grimes and John Grimes senior who collectively are a huge resource of knowledge, experience and methodology in the business of rendering and finishing mudbrick houses.

To begin with I started working with Alan and his father and was introduced to mud brick home and a timber finishing techniques that involved the use of locally sourced, natural rendering materials and wood stains originating from England.

John Grimes senior had worked for many years finishing Alistair Knox, a very well known local architect's homes and this mainly involved painting the interior and exterior of these houses with linseed oil wood stains.

Using my years of experience with that team I provide a rendering and finishing service to the mud brick building industry using locally sourced natural materials and oil based stains supplied by Grimes & Sons Co. Ltd.
